IDS Vancouver & The Armoury District

A quick trip to Interior Design Show Vancouver (IDS) and The Armoury District did not disappoint. A favourite part of the show is the Prototypes, new designers following their dreams and passions. My IDS highlights…

Capella Design caught my heart, an inspirational young designer who is breathing new life for people wanting to age in place and who have a love of design. The Corbel Adjustable Side Table was on display at IDS, a highly adjustable side table, swing arm combination.

Kaly Ryan, Industrial Designer and Founder of Capella Design, in her own words: “We are here to disrupt ageism and ableism through great design.”

The NUI TABLE LAMP designed by Aaaka Hoelk has all of the things, elegance, longevity, functional and a late 80’s nightclub vibe, which make me smile.

2023 Juror’s Choice Winner at Prototype IDS Vancouver

Exert from Aaaka’s website “her practice includes lighting, furniture, spaces and products and is rooted in simplicity of form, quality of detailing, and a refined approach to color and light.”

Lifted is best explored in images. Weights and equipment storage you don’t feel the need to hide, AND, you don’t want to!

Exert from Lifted’s website “when you don’t have to hide it, you’ll reach for it.“

Bravo to Montauk Sofa making a splash with their eye-catching, bold choice, creating a cocoon of warmth and cosiness.

Following IDS, a few hours were spent roaming The Armoury District a Vancouver neighbourhood with a wealth of creative businesses, from architects to automotive, décor to designers.

Highlights were a stop at East Indian Carpets the glorious collections, lively colours and striking patterns abound.

Followed up with a visit with the staff at the Kravet Workspace Library, a visual and tactile experience. I could have easily spent a day here sourcing fabrics and wallpapers and more and more!

Do you know that upwards of 85% of new business comes from word-of-mouth?
